Parent Responsibilities

As a parent, there are many things you should do to help your player enjoy their soccer experience:

  • Read, understand, and follow the parents code of conduct (located here)
  • Learn the rules of the game. Many of us weren't raised playing soccer, and some of the subtleties of the rules are not obvious.
  • Be an active soccer volunteer. In this way your child will see that you are supporting their activities with some of your most precious resources...your time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Team Age Restrictions

Middleton soccer is for players aged 5 to 18 as of August 1st.

Teams are grouped according to the maximum age of the player as of August 1st each year. U8 means that all the players are Under 8 years old as of August 1st. A player who turns 8 on August 2nd would not become a U9 player because they were 8 on August 1st. While some players may play in a group older than they are, they are encouraged to play with their age group except in very extraordinary circumstances.

Fall/Spring Registration

Fall registrations run from May through July while spring registrations run December through February. Late registrations are the last month of the registration period.

Players registering for the Fall season are automatically enrolled in the Spring season at no additional charge. Players registering in the spring are registered for the Spring only. U16-U19 players only play in the Spring Season.

There are a few need-based scholarships available. These are sponsored by generous individuals and organizations in our community. Scholarship forms should be submitted before registration deadlines for each season.

Uniforms

Players are required to purchase their uniforms separately from their registration fees. However, these uniforms may be used for multiple seasons, so players need only buy a new uniform when it becomes worn or outgrown.  U6 to U10 players use the reversible mesh jersey top (Cost $20) while U11 players and older wear a full jersey/short/sock combination (Uniform Kit = $35).

Helping Out

Middleton Soccer is completely volunteer run. You can help by coaching, becoming a certified referee, helping in concessions or at the festival, or by volunteering for a board position.

Play-ups

Players are encouraged to play with their natural age group. US Youth Soccer and the Idaho Youth Soccer Association discourage the practice of allowing players to play on teams above their age group for nearly every reason. Normally, this means that a player will be rostered based on their age as of August 1st (i.e. a 12 year-old player plays U13).

Occasionally, due to the need to provide a recreational team for as many players as possible, Middleton Soccer will create mixed-age teams. Our goal is always to place players on teams with teams of the same age where possible.

Parents wishing to give their player an opportunity for an "additional challenge" should work with coaches in the next age bracket to "guest play". The ability to guest play should not interfere with a players primary responsibility to attend practices and games with his rostered team. Players are allowed to "guest play" up a maximum of two years above their rostered age. This IYSA policy will change to one year effective Fall 2011.

This policy will help ensure that players of every age have a positive experience, and that players develop their skills, leadership, and abilities. Since players mature and develop at different rates in different areas, parents who believe this policy will hinder their player from achieving their own potential are encouraged to ask about additional opportunities available from the IYSA, local clinics, and possibly clubs of a more competitive (vs. recreational) nature.

In every case, a guest player should give their first allegiance to the team where they are rostered.
